Planning this trip

Weather you can expect in June to August

Month Leh Nubra Pangong
June 21° / 7° 24° / 9° 16° / 2°
July 25° / 10° 27° / 12° 19° / 5°
August 24° / 10° 26° / 12° 18° / 5°

Roads over the passes usually open. Good trekking weather begins. Pack: layers, down jacket for nights, sun hat, high-SPF sunscreen.

These are town figures. Nights at camp and on the high passes run far colder — below freezing even in midsummer — and the sun is fierce by day at this altitude.

Typical daytime high / night low in °C. Mountain weather changes fast — treat these as a guide, not a forecast.

Getting to Leh

  • By air — Leh airport (IXL), about 5 km from the town. Direct flights from Delhi daily, with seasonal services from Jammu and other metros. Flights land in the morning and are the usual way in. We meet you at arrivals.
  • By road — Two seasonal road routes, both weather dependent and usually open around June to September: the Kargil–Leh road approached from the Kashmir side, and the Manali–Leh road over Baralacha La and Taglang La. Both take two days with an overnight stop.
  • Before you go — Leh sits at about 3,500 m. Plan a full rest day on arrival before any trekking or high passes — altitude sickness is the most common reason a trip goes wrong here.
